Mechanicsburg CheerAbilities INSPIRATION

Cheer Tyme Inspiration is Cheer Tyme’s CheerAbilities team, designed for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program focuses on inclusion, teamwork, confidence-building, skill development, and giving athletes the opportunity to participate in competitive cheerleading in a supportive environment.

How it works

  • The team practices cheerleading skills such as motions, dances, jumps, stunts, and routines that are adapted to the athletes’ abilities and strengths.
  • Many athletes are paired with buddiesβ€”volunteers who help provide encouragement, guidance, and support during practices and competitions. Cheer Tyme actively recruits mature and caring individuals to serve in this role.
  • The team performs and competes at CheerAbilities events and has even participated in national-level competitions, including events in Orlando.

What is the eligibility to be on Cheer Tyme’s Cheer Abilities Team?

A person 6 years old and older (no maximum age) who has an intellectual disability. A person is considered to have an intellectual disability for the purpose of participating on Cheer Tyme’s CheerAbilities Team, Inspiration, if the person satisfies one of the following;
1. The person has been identified by a professional as having intellectual disabilities as determined by their localities
2. The person has a cognitive delay, as determined by standardized measures such as intelligent quotient or “IQ” testing or other measures that are generally accepted within the professional community
3. The person has a closely related developmental disability. A “closely related developmental disability” means having functional limitations in both cognitive skills and practical adaptive skills
